Product Description
This Walnut rocking horse by The Stevenson Brothers from Bethersden, England is based on a 1910 design originally manufactured by the legendary F.H. Ayres, purveyor of the finest rocking horses during the Victorian era, and prized by children of all ages and British royalty alike. Made from Black American Walnut, this horse is hand carved to show musculature and constructed using the traditional Victorian method of mortise and tenon, ensuring a sturdier connection between joints than the common dowel and peg style that weakens after years of riding, and is fitted with dark Havana English cowhide leather tack and matching suede saddle blanket.Stevenson Brothers have been making their Walnut horse for the past twenty years, and its popularity continues today. The Walnut tree, first introduced by the Romans, called it the nut of Jupiter, the chief of their gods. Since the 16th Century, walnut has commanded a special affection with cabinetmakers and furniture manufacturers on account of its beauty, strength and resilience. Although hard to carve, it is one of the brothers favorite woods as it does not warp, shrink or swell when worked. Its grain and color are exquisite and the wood polishes beautifully.
